1 HAWKS NEST / DESIGN FOR MOBILITY

1 Hawks Nest / Design for Mobility

This project, designed and constructed in phases, accommodates a couple that reside in a small one-story house within walking distance of the beach in Rehoboth, DE. The first phase was a major renovation to create a more airy and open atmosphere and increase functionality for hosting family gatherings. The layout of the dining room and kitchen were reversed and a multi-level deck was added, creating a flowing indoor-outdoor living space. One consideration during this phase was the long-term accessibility of the house for aging-in-place. Spaces were laid out for generous mobility and cabinetry was designed for easy reach and visibility. A second phase renovated the bathrooms with further consideration for aging and access.
