2017 DREXEL CHARRETTE

2017 Drexel Design Charrette with Snøhetta

In 2017 Drexel’s Westphal College sponsored an interdisciplinary design charrette led by the internationally-renowned design practice, Snøhetta. The charrette brought together over 60 students from a variety of disciplines in a weekend of creative brainstorming, community conversation and collaborative design focused on re-imagining several public spaces in the Mantua and Powelton neighborhoods in West Philadelphia. Sites were identified along North 34th Street, with the goal of creating urban interventions that are useful to the neighborhood and possible to be executed. Because 34th Street is an important artery from the suburbs into the city, students were also asked to consider how the sites could connect beyond the neighborhood and create a greater sense of place within the context of Philadelphia and the region.
